Melbourne, which is in the state of Victoria, is 10 hours ahead of GMT (Greenwich Mean Time).
New South Wales, along with Victoria, Queensland, The Australian Capital Terriotory and Tasmania run along the eastern
coast of Australia and are on Eastern Standard Time. Central Australia, including the Northern Territory and
South Australia are 9.5 hours ahead of GMT on Central Standard Time.
Unlike some of the other states in Australia, Victoria (and so Melbourne) participates in
Daylight Savings Time (DST).
DST begins at 2am on the specified day for that calender year. Clocks should be turned forward one hour
to read 3am. It ends at 3am on the specified day for that calender year. Clocks should be turned back one
hour to read 2am (Australian Eastern Standard Time).
DST in Melbourne usually starts on the last Sunday in October and finishes on the last Sunday in March.
